EDDIE YOUNG

Chairman of Board

Eddie Young started his career as an apprentice for an electrical subcontractor when he was young. He enjoyed going to school and playing baseball. Always ready for a challenge, he took the city electrical exam at age 22. At first, the city would not even let him take the exam due to his age, but when they finally agreed he passed with a nearly perfect score and obtained his Master’s license at age 22. He has since acquired licenses in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Eddie started out wiring houses with just one assistant, and in over a year had ten people working for him. Housing was his specialty, but he always had a passion for commercial projects. He had the opportunity to bid for a government job, and since then Young Enterprises reached new heights. Eddie firmly believes that relationships are the key to success, and he has served on the board of American Bank of Texas from 1996-2016. He also served on the board of Wilson N Jones Hospital from 1990-2010.

Eddie has always had a heart for youth and has served on the Boys and Girls Club Board for over 30 years and donated many hours to mentoring boys and girls. The Boys and Girls Club was seeking a way to honor Eddie for his years of service and established the Eddie Young Service award nationally and made Eddie the first recipient.

Eddie has personally established a collegiate award of $1,000 to be given to the most dedicated and hard-working young adult in the prior year. The Boys and Girls Club of Sherman has always been close with Young Enterprises – from establishing a computer lab to renovating when the roof collapsed from an ice storm. Both Eddie and the Young team thoroughly support the Boys and Girls Club. Eddie has also been recognized for his work in the community and was awarded the Starr Community Award in 2020. It is this intimate knowledge of local communities and the people in them that makes Eddie an excellent guide for Young Enterprises.

“I have as much respect for Eddie as I do for anybody. I think he has set the bar very high in terms of what it means to be committed to an organization. In the time he has given the club and expertise he has provided to the club is just as significant as the financial support he has provided throughout the decades. He is a champion for youth.”

– Mike Delong, Executive Director of the Sherman Boys and Girls Club
